Celebrate Japan 2008 The purpose of the Celebrating Diversity project is to expose our relatively isolated students to the glorious richness of peoples and places; to find human connections to make the foreign familiar; to learn about how communities, around the world and along time, govern themselves and resolve conflicts among themselves and with other communities. By exploring and comparing cultures to ours we can learn how to be responsible and involved citizens, better able to appreciate the diversity of our own culture and, hopefully, practice resolving conflicts to a "win-win" solution. Using the arts provides access to learning and engaging modes of expressing that understanding for all students.
